A rare treat this week. Legendary copywriter Gary Bencivenga has released another of his “Marketing Bullets”.
It’s titled “3 Secrets For Multiplying Your Productivity, Success, Income And Personal Happiness As A Copywriter Or Marketer”.
I recommend that you read the whole article, but here are the 3 tips, plus my comments…
#1 Apply The 80/20 Rule To Everything
Otherwise known as the Pareto Principle. In a nutshell, a small number of your activities produce most of your results. So concentrate on those high value activities. Tim Ferriss talks a lot about this in “The 4-Hour Work Week”.
Stephen Covey (“The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People”) talks about activities as being “Important” or “Not Important” and “Urgent” or “Not Urgent”. It’s a slightly different take on the topic but a similar message. Concentrate on what’s important and avoid at all costs tasks that are “Not Important” and “Not Urgent”!
#2 Harness Your “Hour Of Power”
The “Hour Of Power” is that first hour in the morning when you get up. Make the most of it. Gary Bencivenga suggests using it to write, if you are a copywriter. The man is one of the greatest copywriters ever, so it might be a good idea to take note of what he recommends.
People like Tony Robbins and Brian Tracy also endorse this idea, either to set yourself up for a productive day or to use it for highly productive work.
Top copywriter and copywriting coach David Garfinkel told me that he once set aside that first hour in the morning to read “Breakthrough Advertising”. Doing so took his writing and skills to a whole new level.
#3 How To Gain 6 To 8 Extra Hours Of Productivity Every Day
Before you go to sleep, programme your subconscious mind to work on problems while you sleep. When you wake up, “Hey Presto!” you’ll be amazed at the ideas that will pour out of your head.
This idea is similar in some ways to the strategy of drawing up the 6 most important goals for the next day before you go to bed. The idea is to harness the incredible powers of your subconscious mind.
There you have it. Three tips from one of the greatest living copywriters. His success is no accident so these ideas are well worth taking to heart and putting into practice.
