Today (February 2) is “Groundhog Day” which gives me the perfect excuse to post this trailer…
…with an important marketing lesson to follow…
I love this movie and watched it again recently.
If you’re not familiar with the story…
…Bill Murray stars as the self-centred and rather obnoxious Phil Connors. Connors is a TV weatherman who is sent to the small town of Punxsutawney to report on the “Groundhog Day” festival.
Due to mysterious circumstances, Connors ends up trapped in time and having to live out the same day, Groundhog Day, over and over again!
It becomes a real nightmare for him…
Now, many marketers seem to find themselves in a similar situation…
…spinning their wheels and never seeming to make any progress.
If you find yourself in that situation, here’s a suggestion.
In the movie, Connors only escapes the “time loop” when he starts to focus more on others than himself.
If you’re a marketer, put your focus on your customers and what they want…
…rather than simply your own objectives.
Putting this another way…
…find out what your customers want, give it to them and charge accordingly.
That way, you won’t be endlessly caught up in a marketing “Groundhog Day”!
